At Millennium Trailers we are often asked about truck towing capacities.  Each manufacturer publishes information on their website but searching for it is difficult.  In this article we provide links and information about the offerings on the various pickup truck offerings.

Several manufacturers provide towing guides or towing capacity charts for the trucks that they manufacture. For the purpose of this article, we will stop at 1 ton pickup trucks and not cover such trucks as the F-450 & Chevy 4500, 5500 and 6500. Each manufacturer has specifications and weight towing limits.  Several factors can affect the towing capacity:

  • Engine Size
  • Gear Ratio
  • Hitch/Receiver Size
  • Ball Mount and Ball for bumper pull trailers

The Ford F series pickup trucks are the most popular based on sales.  Ford provides 3 models in the F series:

  • F-150 & F150 Lightning
  • F-250
  • F-350

The maximum towing capacity of 14,000 pounds when configured with the V6 3.5L Echo Boost engine.  Based on Motor Trend’s F-150 Lightning towing test, the F-150 Lightning range is limited to less than 100 miles when towing 7,200.  The F-250, F-350 can tow a considerably higher amount of weight.  Check all your local laws before towing for weight and length limits.
